Orpheus Musical Theatre introduces Orpheus Schoolhouse

For the first time in our 115 year history, Orpheus is offering recreational youth courses! At Orpheus, we believe that quality arts education should be available to all. The Orpheus Schoolhouse is specifically designed to provide advanced arts training by accredited and experienced instructors at the lowest cost. Our flexible rates include discounts for Orpheus Members, Pay What You Want options, and bursaries to ensure that every child has access to positive arts education.

Registration for our second semester is now open, and we have 4 exciting classes to choose from for ages 8 - 18!

Stacey Ingrey and Ruth Kwan are back by popular demand with Musical Theatre Vocal Performance. This unique course offers one on one style voice training in a group setting and is a great opportunity to develop key skills of vocal performance at an early age. Two classes are being offered on Sunday mornings for ages 8 - 13 and 14 - 18.

Then on Thursday evenings, J.T. Morris will be bringing his energetic ensemble based acting courses to the Schoolhouse. Budding young actors aged 8 - 11 can introduce themselves to the craft with Fundamentals of Acting, and those teenage comedians can release that energy with an intensive Commedia dell' Arte workshop.

To find out more about the courses, and to register, click on the photos below.

For any other inquiries, please contact General Manager, J.T. Morris (613-729-4318)

PLEASE NOTE: Registration for the above has now closed. Stay Tuned for Summer Camps!

with Laura Osnes

Orpheus is thrilled to be hosting this Masterclass, led by two-time Tony Award nominee, Laura Osnes!

Originally slated as a development workshop for the cast & crew of our cancelled production of Anything Goes, we have decided to run it anyhow and open it up to all. Beyond providing individual vocal coaching, the Q&A section will explore the portrayal of women in the show, as well as overall female representation and equity in the industry, with Laura sharing her experiences starring as Hope Harcourt in the 2011 Broadway Revival.

The Masterclass is open to both participants and observers. Participants will perform a short piece of their song of choice to receive feedback, advice, and coaching for future development. Your song does not have to be from Anything Goes! Observers can benefit from the same feedback for their own development. Following the coaching section, there will be Q&A section for all to discuss the above, as well as any questions you may have about the industry, your own development, or Laura's career.

Due to time constraints, there are only 6 spaces available for participants, so register right away! There is plenty of room for observers. This Masterclass will take place via Zoom to ensure accessibility for all and to accommodate individuals' comfort level.

Set Design
Inspiration to Execution

New to the world of set design? Experienced, but interested in new approaches for conceptualizing and executing your work? Join multi-disciplinary designer and educator, Ksenia Broda-Milian at Orpheus Musical Theatre for a workshop to explore all things set design, including:

  • sources of inspiration and jumping-off points for developing show concepts;

  • some tools for a smooth(er) design workflow;

  • integrating the director's vision and thinking about other design disciplines in your process to build a thoughtful, cohesive world; and,

  • tips and tricks about materials and execution.

Throughout, we'll shake off some of those pandemic cobwebs and stretch our design brains by generating ideas for a theoretical design for A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder. It will be helpful for you to have read the script and done a little thinking about the characters, settings, and themes in the show - but no need to go any further into your process! We'll discuss and imagine together.

Do I have to be a Set Designer for this workshop? No! This workshop is beneficial for Designers of all kinds, Stage Managers, and Directors, as it will discuss working with a vision and creating a cohesive show across departments.
